Meta has released Muse Code, a beta terminal coding agent powered by its new Muse Spark 1.2 model, putting the company in direct competition with the growing field of agentic coding tools.

What sets the tool apart, according to the company, is its ability to coordinate several persistent sub-agents that work at the same time on different parts of a project, allowing it to complete complex engineering tasks with less manual supervision.

The agent ships with built in commands aimed at keeping a human in control, including a plan command that creates an approval based execution plan, a grill command that tests that plan before anything runs, and a goal command that works steadily toward a defined objective.

For now Muse Code is available on macOS and Linux, and it can be reached through a pay as you go pricing model rather than a fixed subscription, lowering the barrier for developers who want to try it on real work.

The model underneath

Muse Spark 1.2 is the model that drives the agent, and Meta says it was built specifically for coding rather than as a general purpose assistant, a decision that reflects how specialized the software engineering use case has become.
